BEGINNINGS:  In the spring of 1999 I began selling perennials from the driveway of our home. A few dozen extra plants were gathered from our personal gardens and potted in recycled nursery containers. The original sale lasted just two weekends but I was hooked!  Thanks to loyal, repeat customers our much-anticipated plant sale has continued to grow each spring.

HOOKED ON GARDENING:  It didn't take long for me to make requests like: "how about building a potting shed" or "a couple of raised beds would work great over there."  I knew I was in trouble when I actually looked forward to buying a load of potting soil and birthday gifts of pruners and new gloves were considered a treat.  It's a pleasure to share my interest in gardening with people who come to our plant sale.

KEEPING IT FRESH: Since the beginning I've worked to increase the variety of plants by propagating new babies from seed as well as by cuttings and plugs. Our repeat customers know there will always be something new to try each year.  While our focus is mainly flowering perennials I also enjoy sharing a few trees and shrubs.  Occassionally you may find a few corn and pumpkin starts or annual sunflower seedlings.

NEW FEATURES:  In 2003 the plant sale was officially moved off the driveway and into our new sales area.  A path will lead you from street-side parking, through display gardens, to the expanded sale area.  2007 brought the addition of new  gardens to see...the front entry, privacy burm and pond area were opened so folks could view mature plants in a landscaped setting and then purchase potted starts from the sale area. An expanded potting shed and this website were added in time for our 2008 season.

I LIKE RECYCLING:  Farmhouse Flowers strives to provide customers with affordable, home-grown plants for their gardens.  Our gardening friends help us do this by returning plant pots on a regular basis.  We recycle plastic nursery pots that are gallon (6") sized and larger - no 4", cell packs or decorative planters please.  Send me an email and we can arrange pick-up or just bring your extras with you when you stop by the sale.
